Hi, my name is Jackie, I am a mature aged lady who is currently doing voluntary work with the blind and vision impaired community. Helping people in this community has given me great satisfaction and I have become confident in my ability to help make other people’s lives more enterprising. I was a ’stay at home Mum’ during the years of my children’s education and I did voluntary work which included helping in my children’s classrooms, and instructing children in years one and two with reading and writing in what was then a new Reading/Writing Program being introduced to primary schools. I was an Assistant Girl Guide Leader during the nineties. I have strong affinity with the guide movement’s ethos, which was to teach young ladies life values and skills – helping others to help other people. I also taught crafts at the Green Point Baptist Church’s craft morning for many years. The crafts included calligraphy, quilling and paper toll (including framing their finished artwork). I am also able to knit and sew. I have Certificates III and IV in Beauty Therapy (receiving the college Massage Therapist of the Year Award 2008), and Certificate III in Business Administration. I worked for one year as a Beauty Therapist whilst the business owner took maternity leave. Prior to having children I worked in printing and administration. I have a typing speed of 50 words per minute. I have used my calligraphic skill to write wedding invitations. I love to ski on snow. I am a non-smoker. I want to become a ‘Hero’ because it will give me great pleasure to help people within the community to achieve greater goals for themselves. A favourite quote of mine is: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. This quote helps me to understand that we are unable to change some circumstances within our lives and that we need to change our attitude and thoughts in regards to them and be able to live comfortably with those circumstances in our lives.
