About
I wanted to become a Social Carer because I’m passionate about caring for others and have a strong desire to help people in need of care, companionship, and practical help. I care about what happens to people as they age. I feel strongly that they need to be treated with dignity and respect. They cared well for us in the past and we must care well for them now. Raised in a large family with a sibling who is a paraplegic, I was used to helping with her care, and I grew up very aware of the challenges faced by people with a disability. My family also included older parents and elderly grandparents that I had a lot to do with, so I experienced first-hand some of the difficulties they went through as well. I would love to make a difference in people’s lives and be an encouragement to isolated people as I have also experienced isolation at times. I am compassionate and approachable and will listen and treat members with dignity. Some of my hobbies include dancing rock and roll and various other styles of dance and listening to music, and going to watch bands. I also love gardening, arts and crafts, swimming, walking, travelling, adventures, reading, singing, skating, crafts. One of my favourite jobs in the past was organising day tours for seniors. I have also been a child care worker, a folk art teacher, a tuckshop convenor, a caterer and a professional declutterer. I’m good at planning and organising and seeing the bigger picture, while noticing the small details. Im a mum of 3 and a grandparent of 4 littlies, who are all very precious to me! Currently I also rent rooms out at my place as I love the companionship. Im involved with a monthly community lunch and on the coffee team at a local church.
